Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 June 2026
PageSage is an honest AI sidebar that summarizes articles and YouTube videos and answers follow-up questions. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Our guiding rule is simple: collect as little as possible.
Who we are
PageSage (“we”, “us”) is operated by an independent developer. You can reach us any time at hi@pagesage.net.
What we collect, and why
- Your account (only if you sign in). Sign-in and your email are handled by our authentication provider, Clerk. Your subscription tier is stored in Clerk account metadata. We use this to sign you in and apply your plan.
- Anonymous usage (so you can try it without an account). To enforce the free daily quota without an account, we compute a salted SHA-256 hash of your IP address plus a browser fingerprint and use it only as the key for a request counter. We do not store your raw IP address or fingerprint — only the hash and a number. The counter auto-expires after 24 hours.
- Signed-in usage. A per-account daily request counter (keyed by your Clerk user ID), also auto-expiring after 24 hours.
- The text you ask us to summarize, and your questions. When you request a summary or ask a follow-up, the relevant text is sent to our AI provider (DeepSeek) to generate a response, which is returned to you. We do not store the page content or summaries on our servers — your summaries are cached only locally in your browser.
- One honest exception: a short-lived answer cache. To avoid recomputing identical requests, the answer to a first-turn question is cached on our server for up to 24 hours, keyed by a hash of your question and a snippet of its context. It is automatically deleted after 24 hours.
What we read on a page
We only read content when you ask for a summary or a follow-up answer:
- Articles. The extension reads the text of the current tab you are viewing, and sends it for summarization.
- YouTube. Our server fetches the video’s publicly available captions (using yt-dlp) to summarize. We do not download the video or audio, and we do not store the captions.
We do not track your browsing history and do not collect web activity in the background.
Limited Use. Our use of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data is used only for the user-facing summarize and question-answering features described above — never for advertising, profiling, or resale.
What we do not collect
- Your raw IP address or fingerprint (we keep only a salted hash).
- Your browsing history.
- Any page content beyond what you actively submit for a summary or question.
- Your own DeepSeek API key (“bring your own key”). If you use one, it is stored only in your browser and sent directly to DeepSeek — it never passes through our servers.
We never sell your data
We do not sell or rent your data, do not use it for personalized advertising, and do not share it with data brokers or advertising networks. Full stop.
Third parties we rely on
We use a small number of service providers to run PageSage. Each receives only what it needs:
- DeepSeek — our AI provider; receives the text you ask us to summarize or answer. deepseek.com
- Clerk — authentication; your email and account. clerk.com/legal/privacy
- LemonSqueezy — payments, as our Merchant of Record. lemonsqueezy.com/privacy
- Cloudflare — DNS, CDN, and abuse protection. cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
- Our hosting provider — runs the backend server.
We do not use any analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting SDKs.
How long we keep things
- Anonymous quota counters and the answer cache auto-expire after 24 hours.
- Account data (your email, tier) is kept by Clerk until you delete your account.
- Subscription and payment records are kept by LemonSqueezy according to their policy.
Your rights and choices
You can access and delete your account at any time through your Clerk account settings; deleting your account removes your email and account data. Anonymous data is not tied to your identity and expires on its own within 24 hours. If you are in a region covered by the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA/CPRA, you have the corresponding rights to access, correct, delete, or object — email us at hi@pagesage.net and we will help.
Children
PageSage is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Questions or requests? Email hi@pagesage.net.
